While studying theatre at Northern
Michigan University we (and two other students) were
introduced to the study of gay literature as a specific genre
in Dr. James Panowski's pilot course called Gay Drama.
The following year NMU's annual Panowski Playwriting Award
went to a young New York playwright, David Grimm, for his new
work Edgar. Paul was thrilled to be cast as the title
character. That, as they say, was the start of a beautiful
friendship.
Since 1996 David's success has lead him far from the shores
of Lake Superior and Dr. Panowski's pilot course has landed a
permanent place in NMU's curriculum.
Thanks to Dr. Panowski, David Grimm, Tom McClurg, and Fate
for bringing us both to Madison we are delighted to combine
forces with StageQ™, Madison's first gay theatre company, to
present David Grimm's Killing Hilda: a Love Story.
(...and it is too a love story, damn it.) |
